Omi Privacy Policy
Version: 1.1
Effective Date: August 17, 2026
Last Updated: August 17, 2026
1. Introduction
Welcome to Omi.
Omi is a software application centered on AI companionship, virtual-town interactions, and real-world exploration. Omi is operated by 深圳元有科技有限公司, a company registered in Mainland China (“Omi,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Omi processes, why and how we process it, how it is stored and shared, and how you can exercise rights such as access, correction, deletion, withdrawal of consent, and account deletion.
Please read this Policy carefully before using Omi. For processing activities that may have a greater impact on your privacy—such as precise location, step/fitness data, or sharing personal information with third-party AI providers—we will provide additional contextual notices and obtain separate or explicit consent where required by applicable law.
This Policy describes the software-only version of Omi. The current version does not depend on Omi hardware and does not process Wi‑Fi passwords for hardware provisioning, BLE peripheral data, or other hardware-connection information.
2. Information We Process
We follow a data-minimization approach and process information based on the features you actually use.
2.1 Account and Profile Information
When you register, sign in, or manage an Omi account, we may process:
- Omi user ID;
- nickname, avatar, and other profile information you choose to provide;
- phone number or email address, if the relevant sign-in method is enabled;
- identifiers provided by Apple, WeChat, QQ, or other sign-in providers, if enabled;
- login status, account creation time, security and authentication information.
Purposes:
- creating and managing your account;
- authentication and account recovery;
- syncing account-related data across devices;
- protecting account security.
We do not request or store your password for Apple, WeChat, QQ, or other third-party accounts.
2.2 Chats and Interactions With Omi and AI Characters
When you voluntarily interact with Omi or AI characters in the town, we may process:
- text you enter;
- AI-generated responses;
- conversation context;
- interactions with characters, town features, and content;
- preferences, names, interests, and other personalization information you voluntarily share;
- structured AI memories created to maintain continuity.
Purposes:
- generating responses to your current conversation;
- maintaining character consistency and conversational context;
- remembering relevant information in later interactions when you enable or use long-term memory;
- generating personalized town content, character reactions, and experiences;
- maintaining service safety and preventing abuse.
Omi does not require you to provide government identification numbers, bank-card numbers, medical records, account passwords, or other sensitive information unrelated to the core experience. Please avoid submitting such information unless it is necessary.
AI Memory
Omi may summarize selected parts of your interactions into structured memories, such as preferences you voluntarily express, past events, or information relevant to your relationship with Omi characters.
AI memory is used to personalize your own Omi experience and is not displayed as a public social profile to other real users.
You can manage relevant information through available memory controls, chat deletion, or account deletion features.
2.3 Photos and Images
When you actively use an image-related feature, we may process:
- images you deliberately select from your photo library;
- photos you actively capture and submit through the camera;
- text descriptions submitted with an image;
- results created through image understanding, analysis, or generation.
Purposes:
- understanding content you choose to share;
- enabling image-based interactions with Omi and AI characters;
- generating AI content related to your input;
- storing content or creations that you choose to keep.
Granting photo permission does not mean Omi will automatically read your entire photo library. Where supported, we prefer system mechanisms that allow you to select only specific photos.
The current software-only version of Omi does not provide a public social network or public community for real users. Private images submitted to Omi are not automatically made public to other real users.
If an image contains another person’s personal information, please make sure you have the lawful right to submit or share it.
2.4 Voice and Audio
When you actively select a voice-input or other microphone-dependent feature, we may process:
- audio from that voice interaction;
- speech-to-text transcripts;
- text or audio data needed to generate a voice response.
Purposes:
- converting speech into text;
- understanding your input and generating AI responses;
- providing voice interaction features.
The current software-only version of Omi does not continuously listen to ambient sound and does not collect environmental audio when you have not actively started a voice feature.
Unless clearly stated otherwise in the interface, Omi does not use long-term retention of raw recordings as a default. After speech recognition is complete, raw audio should be deleted according to data-minimization principles or retained by the relevant processor only for the shortest period required under its service configuration. If a transcript becomes part of your chat history, it is handled under the same rules as chat data.
You can disable microphone access at any time in iOS Settings.
2.5 Location Information
When you use a location-dependent exploration, discovery, or LBS feature and grant location permission, we may process:
- precise latitude and longitude;
- approximate location, city, or region;
- results identifying places or areas;
- exploration, collection, or souvenir records generated from a location.
Purposes:
- determining whether you are at a relevant place or area;
- providing real-world location-based exploration;
- generating location-related collections, souvenirs, and town reactions;
- detecting clearly abnormal location requests or abuse.
Precise location and movement-related data may be considered sensitive personal information under applicable laws. We process such information only where relevant to the feature and obtain separate consent where required.
The current software-only version does not use continuous background location as a basic capability and does not continuously access background location for ordinary chat, town browsing, or non-location features.
You can change or disable permission through:
iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Omi
Location-independent Omi features remain available if you turn location access off.
To reduce privacy risks, we avoid creating long-term continuous location histories that are not required for a feature. Results directly related to an exploration event may remain as part of your Omi account, while raw precise coordinates that are no longer needed are deleted or de-identified in accordance with data-minimization principles.
2.6 Steps and Fitness Information
When you enable a step-based feature and authorize the corresponding iOS permission, we may read:
- step counts relevant to the feature;
- daily or otherwise necessary step totals;
- Omi energy, exploration opportunities, or other in-app results calculated from step counts.
Purposes:
- accumulating Omi energy based on real-world walking;
- calculating step-related exploration opportunities;
- connecting real-world activity with your Omi town experience.
We do not use this information for medical diagnosis, disease assessment, insurance, or advertising.
We follow a data-minimization approach. If the feature only requires an aggregated step count, we do not upload a complete health record for that purpose. Where server-side storage is required, we prefer to store the minimum aggregated result required for the feature rather than complete underlying activity records.
You can revoke the relevant permission at any time in iOS Settings. Step-based features may stop updating, but unrelated Omi features remain available.
2.7 Device, Usage, Analytics, and Diagnostic Information
To keep Omi reliable and secure and to improve the experience, we may process:
- device model, operating system version, app version, language, and time zone;
- IP address and network status;
- Omi user ID and device or installation identifiers;
- usage events such as page views, taps, feature use, launches, and exits;
- crash reports, error stacks, performance information, and necessary diagnostics.
Purposes:
- troubleshooting and reliability improvements;
- understanding whether features operate correctly;
- detecting abnormal requests, fraud, and security risks;
- improving product usability.
We do not intentionally include private chat content, raw voice recordings, precise location, verification codes, passwords, access tokens, or refresh tokens as ordinary analytics event properties.
Non-essential third-party analytics should be initialized only after the required privacy notice and consent have been completed. If Omi provides a separate analytics control, disabling it will stop future non-essential analytics collection.
2.8 Notifications
If you enable push notifications, we process the push token provided through Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) and necessary notification-status information to send:
- Omi or town-related reminders;
- service-status notices;
- feature or activity notifications you choose to receive.
You can disable notifications at any time in iOS Settings.
3. What We Do Not Do
In the current software-only version:
- we do not process BLE pairing data or Wi‑Fi provisioning passwords for Omi hardware;
- we do not continuously collect ambient audio;
- we do not provide direct messaging or a public social network between real users;
- we do not sell your personal information;
- we do not use your personal information for cross-app or cross-website advertising tracking;
- we do not use precise location, step data, private chats, private images, or voice data for advertising profiles.
If Omi’s capabilities materially change in the future, we will update the relevant notices and obtain new authorization or consent where required.
4. AI Services and Sharing With Third-Party AI Providers
Some core Omi features rely on artificial intelligence models.
When you use AI chat, speech recognition, image understanding, image generation, music generation, or another AI feature, Omi may need to send information necessary to complete that request to the relevant third-party AI provider.
This may include:
- text in the current request;
- conversation context or AI-memory excerpts necessary for the current response;
- images you intentionally submit for processing;
- voice input or transcripts you intentionally submit for processing;
- limited technical information necessary to complete the request.
Using AI chat does not by itself cause Omi to send unrelated complete location history, full step history, or other unrelated information to an AI provider.
4.1 Notice and Permission
Where required by applicable law or platform rules, before Omi first shares your personal information with a third-party AI provider, we will provide a contextual notice describing:
- the provider or category of provider receiving the information;
- the types of information being sent;
- the purpose of processing;
- whether cross-border processing may occur;
- relevant privacy risks and available controls.
We will obtain the required explicit or separate permission before the transfer.
If you decline data sharing with a particular third-party AI provider, Omi will not send new personal information to that provider for the relevant feature. The feature may become unavailable, but unrelated basic features should remain available.
4.2 Model Training
We do not use your private chats, private images, private voice data, precise location, AI memories, or other personal information to train, fine-tune, or improve general-purpose or personalized models. This commitment also covers anonymized, de-identified, or aggregated versions of that data and related model outputs. Through production configuration and contractual arrangements, we also require our third-party AI processors not to use that data or those outputs for their own or any third party's model training, fine-tuning, or model improvement.
If we propose to change this purpose in the future, we will first clearly explain the specific data, model, and purpose and obtain any separate consent or other valid authorization required by law before the relevant processing begins.
5. Third-Party Services and Processors
Omi may use third parties for authentication, maps, AI, cloud storage, push notifications, analytics, and diagnostics.

Where a third party acts as an independent controller or personal information processor, we will disclose its identity, contact information, purpose, processing method, and data categories, and obtain any consent required by applicable law.
6. Data Storage and International Transfers
Omi’s primary service data under our direct control is stored in Mainland China.
Except for the circumstances expressly identified in the third-party-services list above, we do not currently initiate transfers of your personal information outside Mainland China. Apple platform services and features that still use an overseas processor may process information outside Mainland China under the relevant provider's arrangements. We provide only the information necessary for the relevant feature and provide additional notice and obtain separate consent where required by applicable law.
If a third-party AI provider, cloud service, or other feature requires transferring personal information outside your country or allowing a recipient in another jurisdiction to access it, we will implement the notices, consent, contracts, certifications, security assessments, or other safeguards required by applicable law.
For users in Mainland China, if a processing activity constitutes a cross-border transfer of personal information, we will take measures required by Chinese personal-information and cross-border-data rules. Where separate consent is legally required, we will obtain it before the transfer.
7. Data Retention
We keep personal information only for the shortest period reasonably necessary for the relevant purpose and apply different retention rules to different data.
| Data Category | Retention Rule |
|---|---|
| Account and profile data | while the account remains active; deletion/anonymization follows Section 10 after account deletion |
| Chat history | while you retain the relevant conversation or use the feature; deletion begins when you delete the chat or account |
| AI memory | while the relevant personalization feature is enabled and used; manageable through memory controls or account deletion |

| Crash and diagnostic logs | generally retained for no longer than 3 months, unless a longer period is necessary for law, a security investigation, or dispute resolution |
| Backup data | cleared through the normal backup-rotation cycle after primary deletion and retained for no longer than 3 months |
| Compliance, security, and transaction records | for the period required by law or reasonably necessary to establish, exercise, or defend legal rights |
When the processing purpose has been achieved, is no longer achievable or necessary, the agreed retention period expires, you withdraw consent and no other lawful basis applies, or you lawfully delete your account, we delete or anonymize the relevant personal information as required by law. If deletion is temporarily impossible because a statutory retention period has not expired or for technical reasons, we stop processing the information other than storage and necessary security protection.
8. System Permissions and Withdrawal
Omi requests system permissions when a feature requires them rather than requesting all permissions at first launch.
| Permission | Use | Effect of Declining |
|---|---|---|
| Location | LBS, place exploration, location-related content | location-based exploration will be unavailable |
| Motion/Fitness | reading step counts and calculating Omi energy or exploration opportunities | step-based features will not update automatically |
| Microphone | voice input actively initiated by you | voice input unavailable; text interaction remains available |
| Camera | taking and submitting a photo | direct camera capture unavailable |
| Photos | selecting an image you choose to submit | photo-library submission unavailable |
| Notifications | Omi and service reminders | no system push notifications; basic in-app features remain available |
You can change permissions at any time through iOS Settings.
Withdrawing permission or consent does not affect processing lawfully completed before withdrawal. After withdrawal, we stop new processing that depends on that authorization unless the law permits or requires continued processing.
9. Information Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate to the sensitivity of the data, including:
- TLS/HTTPS for data in transit;
- authentication and access controls;
- secure management of production credentials, keys, and tokens;
- reduction and sanitization of sensitive information in logs;
- access restrictions for employees and service providers;
- monitoring for abnormal requests, abuse, and security risks;
- backup, deletion, and security-incident response procedures.
No internet service can guarantee absolute security. If a personal-data security incident is likely to materially affect your rights, we will take appropriate remedial action and provide notices to you and relevant authorities where required by law.
10. Account and Personal-Data Deletion
You can initiate account deletion in the app through:
Omi → Settings → Delete Account
We may require reasonable identity verification to prevent unauthorized deletion.
The deletion workflow covers account-linked information that we control and are not legally required to retain, including:
- account and profile data;
- chat history;
- AI memory;
- images and related content you chose to retain;
- location-derived exploration and related service data;
- step-related service data;
- device or sign-in bindings;
- identifiable records in analytics or diagnostic systems directly controlled by us.
After you confirm account deletion, we complete deletion or anonymization from production systems within 30 days. Residual copies in backups are removed through the normal backup-rotation cycle, no later than the period stated in Section 7.
Information that must be retained by law will be restricted to the required purpose and retained only for the required period.
Where a service provider retains identifiable information on our behalf, we will submit corresponding deletion or de-identification requests in accordance with our contracts and technical capabilities.
11. Your Privacy Rights
Subject to applicable law, you may use in-app controls or contact us to:
- access information about the personal data we process;
- obtain a copy where legally available;
- correct or supplement inaccurate data;
- delete data when the legal conditions for deletion are met;
- withdraw consent-based processing;
- restrict or object to specific processing where applicable;
- delete your account;
- ask questions or submit complaints about our privacy practices;
- request transfer of personal information where the legal conditions are met.
We may verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests. Except where legally permitted, we will not impose unreasonable conditions on the exercise of your privacy rights.
12. Children and Minors
Omi is not specifically designed for children and is not an Apple “Made for Kids” product.
For users in Mainland China, the current version is not primarily directed to children under 14. If we process personal information of a child under 14 on the basis of consent, we will obtain consent from the child’s parent or other guardian as required by law and apply dedicated rules and safeguards for children’s personal information.
If we learn that we have processed children’s personal information without required authorization, we will take appropriate steps to stop processing, delete the information, or otherwise comply with applicable law.
Parents or guardians who believe a child has provided personal information to Omi may contact us using the details below.
13. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Policy when Omi features, processing practices, third-party services, or applicable law change.
If a change materially affects your privacy rights, we will provide appropriate notice through an in-app notice, pop-up, or other suitable method. Where new consent is legally required, we will obtain the required authorization before continuing the affected processing.
The effective date of the latest version appears at the top of this page.
